Bad combination: Weed Whipper, shorts and sandals.

The Beast is ordinarily loath to bring up personal issues or events in his blog but it is a slow day, so here is something fun.

Sunday was a bad day. Up here in New Hampshire the grass has just started growing, so The Beast decided to see if he could fire up his weed whipper and knock back the jungle that his coi fountain has become. After a whole winter of NOT using power lawn tools, a small amount of re-learning was required.

The Beast re-learned why one should not wear sandals and shorts when weed whipping.

Being a guy, The Beast bought a weed whipper WAY too powerful for his yard.

Being a guy, The Beast got quite carried away with the whipping, even scouring out the crap between the flagstones in front of his pool. Being a guy, the Beast ignored the occasional stings of flying pebbles and sticks gouged up by the whipper string.

But suddenly he felt a WHAP against his shin. He assumed it was a largish rock and continued to whip away. But the spot on his shin got more and more sore, and his foot wasn’t working quite right – it was not bending properly as he walked and it felt oddly tight. After ten minutes the pain got so bad he stopped and looked down.

He had a two inch finish nail stuck about an inch deep into his shinbone! It was embedded! Worse, still, it had gone through the big tendon that slides above the bone, pinning it in place, which is why the foot wasn’t working quite right.

He worked the nail loose and threw it away. But later that night he realized that this nail (which was all black, corroded and dirty) was probably crawling with infectious stuff – some of which was now imbedded at least a quarter inch into his shinbone.

SO he got out a little exacto knife with a fresh razor blade in it, dipped it in alcohol and had to cut the whole thing open and scrub it out. YOUCH.

Four days later there is a bit of redness around the wound but no swelling. He thinks he may have dodged the bullet.

o

Of course he also cleaned up his outdoor Tiki Longe and that was worth the trouble

I hope your tetnus (spelling sucks I know) shot is up to date (w/in the last 10 years..).. if you don’t remember when you’ve received it last, then get another one. Even though you’ve scrubbed it w/ alkeehol, alkeehol doesn’t kill all the little teeny weeny bugs on that nail, and lockjaw ain’t a nice thing to have to deal with. I’ve seen it, it ain’t pretty.

This is the nursing person working on Biotech degree speaking to you.

Now, me as just a regular person.. Ouch. And you took a knife and opened it up again.. are you freaking nuts? LOL I think I know the answer to that LOL.

    Carlie thanks for your concern.

The Beast admits he was loathe to go to the ER just for a little piece of wire embedded in his shin, so he rolled the dice.

It’s healing up nicely though. The red spot has now shrunk to the size of a dime. No streaks, no swelling. Fingers, toes and eyes crossed.

Seeing the leg makes me understand why they call you ‘The Hairy Beast’. Actually an interesting story. And I will now permanently ban shorts from my weedwacking wardrobe. My wife gave a good grimace from this story as well. Good stuff.

Yes, no more shorts when weed whipping. Um – and not drinking before you do it might also improve your accuracy and decision making capacity (as in: “should I change out of my shorts and sandals before I go to whip the weeds? Nahhhh! I’ll just finish this beer and get cranking!”).

Oh Beasty, I have to go with Carlie on this one.

Even if you have had a tetnus shot within the last ten years, when an injury like this occurs, they like to give you a top-up, to be on the safe side.

    Take care!

But irrespective of where you had been using weed buds to
get high or where you bought your cannabis seeds to
grow it yourself, the high quality could only be described as crap.
To help anyone who could possibly be considering getting involved inside the cultivation of marijuana plants here is definitely an interview conducted having a first time
cannabis grower. Also because you are not using soil to grow the plants with, the thing is that a massive reduction inside the pests
which could try to infest your plants to make them
    unhealthy.
