UPDATE #2: For readers directed here by a search engine looking for information on “The Maine Beast”: This is all The Hairy Beast has for you on that.
The Hairy Beast took his kids fishing next to that EXACT breakwater just 8 days ago. They swam while he waded chest deep and threw out hunks of mackerel with his surfcaster. He wont be doing that again!

Wells beaches reopen after sharks scare
Beaches in Wells, Me., were reopen today after being closed yesterday when several sharks were seen swimming close to shore.
Wells Fire Chief Daniel Moore reopened the beaches after going out on the water this morning surveying for more sharks, who are being drawn to the beaches in part because of unusually high water temperatures this summer, officials said.
Concern grew yesterday when officials found the body of a mako shark on a jetty at Wells Beach. Officials said they could not determine what killed the shark, which was about 3 to 4 feet long.
Several hours later, two additional sightings of sharks were made south of that same jetty. Officials said they were unable to determine what kind of sharks they were, but as a precaution ordered all beaches closed until the sharks are identified.
The town’s shark plan calls for all beaches to be evacuated and identify the species of shark.
