How To Make Your Own Cigs – Zig Zag Injector Tutorial

Tired of forking out $5 for a pack of butts? You can buy premade tubes with filters and stuff your own for a fraction of the price. And you get to smoke real, high quality tobacco with no additives. The Beast tried it and here is how he did it:

You will need

Injector – $5
Tobacco – $10 for approx 200 cigarettes
Tubes – $2 for 200

So do the math – $17 for 200 cigarettes? AND you only have to buy the injector once!

Here’s how The Beast does his.

This is a little Zig Zag Hand Injector

It folds open.

Tobacco goes in the little slot

This is “American Spirit” medium shag tobacco.

It’s nice and mild. Of course you can mix your own blends.

Pinch up a little.

Sprinkle into the slot. Make sure there’s plenty on each end.

Tamp it down real nice and tight.

Repeat.

And tamp some more.

Tamp, fill tamp, fill.

Ready to Roll!

Get a “tube” (empty cigarette paper).

Slide it onto the nozzle.

Like so.

Close lid, gripping nozzle securely.

Slide injector back smoothly.

All the way back until it stops.

Slide forward.

Remove cigarette.

A perfect roll! Repeat as needed!

He he … NEET!! Here in Egypt, you can’t buy tobacco only. You have to buy ready-made.(Camel, yea know 😉 ) But in Scandinavia, my ex-hubby used to make his own this way.

    Yucca and Kirsten,

    Four benefits:

    1. It’s a lot cheaper to stuff your own – this is money you can spend on booze and women of loose morals.
    2. You can smoke a much higer quality tobacco.
    3. You screw the government out of a lot of sin tax money.
    4. You smoke less because it takes time to make the things.

Not to mention, without all the chemicals and additives, they are less addicting. I can go hours without smoking without the headaches or nervousness.

Ah, ok thanks for the bump! 🙂

Seriously, these stuffies are WAY better than store-bought. Even the fanciest cigs have a certain percentage of sweepings, shake and reconstituted sheet tobacco in them – as well as additives. The ones The Beast makes have only premium shag tobacco in em. They may taste a bit stronger than the standard butt, but they taste better and cost half what the store bought kind do.

Darn it, I don’t think I can get any of the required equipment down-under.

A nice community service though and easy to follow instructions, for those who can take advantage.

Caz, ask your local tobacconist. Or these products can all be ordered online.

Concerning the trackback …. John Wayne made 10 at the time, up front and put them in a silver, cigaret box 😉 . Just like my ex-hubby 😀

I have long enjoyed the fact that I pay on the “Tax Class J” instead of the higher rating for tailor-mades. I discovered “rollies” while hitching around the country a few years ago…but now I smoke them because I don’t think they make me cough as much…I also smoke non-filters. Sometimes when I switch BACK to Marlboro/Camel or whatever when I can’t buy my rollies I can really tell how much extra CRAP they are putting on that tobacco. Thanks for the instruction on the injector, Beast, I wish someone would have done this tutorial years ago when I was using the tubes for the first time. I blew through a lot of tubes when I first tried the process (understuffs, blowouts, etc.) keep up the good work.

And as of late, all packaged cigs in the US are Fire Safe (FSC) which means they go out when unattended to avoid fires. To accomplish this, they put the equivalent chemical found in carpet glue in the paper. So if your Marlboros are tasting metallic and/or give you a headache or are making you nauseous, its the FSC additive in the paper.

    Ah, Jeremiah

Great minds think alike. The Beast has managed to drop his carton price to below $8 by shopping wisely and improved the quality of his tobacco. Agreed – “Tax Class J” rocks!

And there is definitely less coughing.

Hey beast thanks for the tip I went out and found a tops cig maker same design for 4.99. got some premium tobacco for 6.99 and 200 tubes for 7.99.

And I’lltell you what they smkoe cleaner and a helluva lot more bang. they only draw back is you can not pack them as tight as store bought but oh well.

Try some pipe tobacco just chop it up a little finner makes for a smooth flavor

    Kev,

$7.99 for Top tubes? We get em for $2.50 a box (250 count) here. Seems steep.

As for loose tubes, The BEast had the same issues at first but he figured out the trick:

    1. Put in a little tobacco, then tamp the eveloving hell out of it! Then do another layer and tamp like crazy, then a final layer. Tamp, Tamp, Tamp.

Not sure if the top injector is the same as the Zig Zag, but it should have some sort of rubber doohickey in front to clamp down on the tip of the tube paper and hold it tight to the nozzle. The Beast wasn’t squeezing tight enough at first, so the tube would slip off when there was lots of tobacco to shove in.

Practise makes perfect – you should be able to wangle a way to get your cigs nice and full. The ones the Beast makes now are more like cigars and they burn for about twice as long too.

I started using one of those ZigZag makers and after getting so frustrated I almost went back to pre-mades …. I bought a machine. I have the top-o-matic. No tamping. You put some bacco in the window, put a tube on the nozzle, crank the handle and a perfect ciggy comes out. It even cuts off the excess tobacco and packs the rest before moving it into the tube. There is a video on the top-o-matic on utube … after viewing that, I got in the car and bought one for about $30USD.
